St Michael’s Centennial

Two weekends ago was the culmination of St. Michael’s Church’s centennial year, and marked the end of my time covering their events.  I’m going to miss it.  Rather than repeat the same post here, please click the image below to view the original post on my professional site, {Brent Pennington: Photographer}

September Update

Not much personal photography the past few weeks, due to a mix of work and play.  Well, work and work is more like it…business work and at-home work.  In the wake of August’s Ikea run, Mandy and I decided to refinish some of our existing furniture, which as resulted in minor power tool purchases and [...]

Simple Clicks – Now that’s dedication!

Just a couple of snaps from the annual Back Mountain Community Library Auction this past Friday evening.  The auction is about the biggest thing that happens in the Back Mountain each summer, and coming to it with an outsider’s perspective, I can easily see why – it’s a great time!  It’s an amazing combination of [...]

Centennial Kickoff

I spent a hour on Sunday night covering St. Michael’s Byzantine Church’s Centennial Year kickoff at the request of my dear friends Paul and Chris. Paul is a fellow photog, and will be spending the next year leading up to the Centennial day making a photographic record of his church, to be published in a [...]

Coming Attractions: Summer 2010

Got some exciting stuff coming up in the next couple of months – here’s a quick look ahead: – Senior portraits: finishing Mandy’s and then I’ll have a second shoot later in the summer with a high school senior. I’m working to further finesse my outdoor portrait technique, so you can expect some tips and [...]

In the works

Things always get busy in the Spring and it seems that I’m no exception.  Which is a good thing – being busy with photography projects is the way I like it!  So here’s some of what’s on the calendar for the month ahead: Review of my new Canon 17-35mm L lens Easter Sunday: some photos [...]

Sweet 16 – or, the Dreaded Party Venue

Sunday was my girlfriend’s cousin’s Sweet Sixteen party.  Long about time for the group photo I stepped in to help out, in the process putting myself square in that always-painful situation; shooting in the Dreaded Party Venue. You know the one I mean.  The church hall, the school gym, the community center.  The name changes [...]

So you're going to an event

You’re going to an event.  One of those arena-based performances that cost too much, where they try to hawk trinkets and cotton candy at you during intermission.  Where you have to pass through a ridiculous bag check at the door, where they tell you that “professional” photo gear isn’t allowed.  Which to the people running [...]

Gettysburg, PA

Gettysburg is one of those rare towns that I can return to again and again and continue to enjoy with each visit.  It seems there is always something new to explore and something old to revisit, and even though this made the third visit in 12 months, when I left I was glad for the [...]

Homecoming – Recap

Another Homecoming has come on gone – looking back, I realize that this was actually my 5th. As I indicated in my pre-game post , my schedule this year was quite different. The day began with a static portrait setup in the Welcome Center, where alumni could grab a doughnut and a portrait with the [...]
