The small bird season in winding down, and I realize that I did less work with them photographically than I would have liked. But the large birds are still active and visible, including this batch from a paddle last week, which I wanted to share.
This Great Egret is an infrequent visitor to Lackawanna, stopping over for a few weeks at a time once or twice a year. He’s been there for a while now and I was fortunate enough to encounter him on my paddle. He’s even less tolerant of me than the herons are, but fortunately he was more concerned with a pair of Great Blue Herons, who he appeared to be fighting with over that section of the lake.
And of course a gaggle of female mallards preening and feeding over the mud mar in the marsh. Their ducklings were nearby, hiding in the reeds.
