BRENT PENNINGTON Kayaking on Kent Pond in Killington, VT, on the morning of 12 June 2015.

When you reach the back of Kent Pond by water, the far northern northern cove, you find the outflow dam and, as you approach it, the water forms a line against the horizon and beyond it you see only mountains and trees.  The pond goes shallow leading up to it, and the current isn’t too strong, but there’s still that sense that, if you paddled ahead, you’d drop off the side of the mountain.

After all my visits to Kent Pond over the years, it was nice to get out on the water and explore it from the natural perspective.  It’s a short paddle, going all around the perimeter.  But it’s worth the time, especially if you get a morning where the light is better than this one.BRENT PENNINGTON Kayaking on Kent Pond in Killington, VT, on the morning of 12 June 2015.
