Thistles start to blossom at Archbald Regional Park on the morning of 13 July 2012.

Found these thistles down at Archbald Regional Park last Friday morning, just starting to blossom.  The way they’re going about it was interesting to me, so I paused to make a couple of captures.  Seems the flowers start in the middle and work outwards from there – unusual, but rather lovely in a contrasted sort of way, the spikes vs the softer blossoms.   (This is also a good example of how a telephoto lens, even at f/5.6, can turn the background to a spray of abstract colors when used properly.)
