There’s no longer any doubt about it, it’s birding season! The first batch of migrants are already back in the area and each week will continue to bring more. I had several days off for the Easter weekend and was able to make repeated trips into the field, which have been some of my most productive and successful ever. Coming from a long, and photographically dismal winter, I can’t even begin to describe how good it feels to be back out with the camera making good captures.
Like riding a bike, the old skills come back pretty quick – although the first day, I’ll admit that I was swinging the lens around a little wildly, and having a hell of at time finding a bird in flight, much less tracking it. But even so, the species list for each day was high, which for me is half the fun. But enough talk – photos after the break:

More to come!

I recognize the Killdeer but what are the other birds? One looks like a female Brown-headed Cowbird. (3rd one down, solo bird on branch). Also what’s that splotch on the lower left hand corner of the photo, dust bunny?
Yep, first is a Killdeer. The others are: 2)Song Sparrow, 3)Wood Ducks, 4)female Red-winged Blackbird, 5)Ring-necked Ducks, 6)another Song Sparrow. And yeah, I guess that is a dust bunny on the corner – didn’t even see it until you pointed it out!
