These are simple clicks by virtue of the fact that they didn’t fit in with yesterday’s post. They’re one of shots I had pre-visualized when I was driving out to Promised Land on Monday morning, from the small wooded area between the Lower Lake boat launch and the creek that flows down from Promised Land Lake. It’s a pine forest, with a tall canopy and open under story; a far cry for the forests of Vermont. I’m drawn to it because it’s unique, at least to me, and have been taking photos of it off and on for several years, each time trying to capture the openness, the carpet of needles and pine cones amid the roots and rocks.

I’m shooting with the 18-55 IS for both of these, still trying to refine my wide-angle technique. I’m working on getting in close, having a foreground element, and achieving deep DOF. It’s a process, but I feel that I’m making progress.
In post, I’m continuing to play with a film emulator plug-in I picked up in December. It’s very much a trial-and-error thing, trying to find the right combination of factors that fits my vision. But I’ve got enough time logged with it now that I know where to start. I like the results, especially the B&W emulations.
More to come.
